“Show UP!”

L.A. McMurray • October 26, 2026

I’m a little late to the game, but I’m ready to show up!

Only recently, I learned of women who were jailed and tortured in the pursuit of voting rights, and of the brave women who fought government and local bullies to ensure the safety of children, and of the courageous people in the past and present exposing corporations for their environmental destruction of the earth and our health.

People, regular people, who put their life on the line to flip the status quo and ensure the rights and wellbeing of all humans of every age, gender, and ethnicity.

Voting season is upon us. Now it’s our turn to be as determined as our ancestors and the activists who endured forced feeding, physical and mental harm, and NEVER gave up. It is critically important to vote out of respect to those who fought tirelessly and those who died for a better world, and not for their individual interests but for the greater good of all.

Amy Action is running for the governor of Ohio. She is of good character and integrity, is articulate, intelligent, determined, and a true civil servant. She grew up in Youngstown, and although her childhood was one of abuse, neglect, food and housing instability, she endured and became a doctor. Ohioans came to know her best during COVID when we relied on her daily afternoon updates to help us navigate this highly infectious and devasting disease.

She was building the plane as we flew in it. We trusted her and the decisions she made with the information she had at the time. She demonstrated leadership, expertise, and common sense through one of the worst global health crisis in modern times.

In 1917, women were imprisoned and tortured for peacefully seeking the right to vote. I owe them my full energy and commitment to vote responsibly in every election. And today, in 2026, voter’s rights are being denied with malicious intent. When I think of what those women went through before, during, and after the 19 th Amendment, I must show up at the polls and for every individual having their voice silenced. Voting is the least we can do!

Most political ads are meant to misinform and deceive the voter; both sides use tactics that insult our intelligence. If you want my vote, show me your character, leadership, commitment to civil service, past successes, record on environmental issues, ethics records, sphere of influence, and plans to improve our community, state, and country. When a candidate promotes lies, that doesn’t win my vote, it shows me who they are. Note, “When people show you who they are, believe them.” Maya Angelou

Let’s vote! Let’s honor those who suffered for our right to show up at the polls!
